SUPERCROSS MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES, AN FIM WORLD ROUND 1 / JANUARY 9, 2016 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA / ANGEL STADIUM OF ANAHEIM P50 250SX WEST Defending champion Cooper Webb looks to be the rider to beat again in the 250SX West Region Championship. The Yamalube/ Star Racing Yamaha Team rider looked very fast and aggressive all night en route to winning his heat race (though he appeared to pass Christian Craig under a caution flag on the final lap to do so) and the 15-lap Main event after run- ning down former A1 winner Jessy Nelson. Webb also beat fellow heat-race winner Zach Osborne, who finished third on the night, but never got the chance to battle with Joey Savatgy, one of the riders from the Monster Energy/Pro Cir- cuit/Kawasaki camp that many feel will be one of Cooper's most chal- lenging rivals this season. Both Craig and Savatgy tangled early in the Main and went into points-sal- vaging mode, with Savatgy finish- ing eighth and Craig 17 th . Cooper Webb showed why he's wearing the number-one plate. He showed a lot of intensity on the track and was able to run down early leader Jessy Nelson for the win. "I felt a little stronger in the whoops and was cutting my corners a little shorter," Webb said of his advantages on the track. He credited some of his success by the many off-season races he did. "I think that paid off for this."
