IN THE WIND P40 DUNLOP COTA MOTOAMERICA TIRE TEST FOR MARCH M otoAmerica and series control tire sup- plier Dunlop have announced a two-day test at the Circuit of The Americas (CoTA) in Austin, TX, in what will be the final shake- down for competitors ahead of the season opener at the same venue on April 8-10, and will be open to all AMA licensed competitors in the Superbike, Superstock 1000, Supers- port and Superstock 600 classes. "We're looking forward to heading to CoTA again to test," said MotoAmerica partner Chuck Aksland. "Last year's test there was productive for the teams and for MotoAmerica as we embarked on our first season. This year we're looking to making things bigger and better and it all starts again in CoTA. Dunlop has really stepped up in preparation for the new season and this test will give our teams and riders a chance to try the latest tires at the same venue where we will open the season." The test will bookend the off-season schedule started by the Dunlop tire test at Thunderhill in northern California last December. For CoTA, Dun- lop will bring over 400 tires to test, including 12 different spec fronts and 14 different rears. "It's great to hear that we get the chance to test at CoTA before we start the season there," said MotoAmerica Superbike Champion Cameron Beaubier. "It's always good to test where we race so I'm looking forward to the test. We had some great battles in Texas to start the season last year and I expect more of the same this year. We need to be ready and bring our A game and the test is the first step to doing just that." CN It's almost go time for MotoAmerica but first there's one more test to get through. MICKY DYMOND HONORED T wo-time AMA 125cc National Motocross Champion Micky Dymond was recognized by the Leg- ends and Heroes Motocross Tour during the Anaheim I Supercross. Dymond joined the factory Honda team in 1986 and reward- ed them right away with the 125 MX title and again in 1987. The Californian retired in 1992 but re- emerged in the 2000s and won the AMA Supermoto Champion- ship in 2005. "I never in a million years thought I'd come down here dur- ing a supercross and be doing this," he said from the stadium's podium. "It's pretty special and I pretty honored that they asked me to do it. I love the sport, I love being on a motorcycle. I watch it all the time, but I haven't been to one in about five years. I still love the racing and still follow the racers of today. And I'm happy to be coming off a career of doing it myself." Dymond still enjoys riding two wheels but mostly on bicycles doing ultra-endurance riding. He and a team of four recently won the 3,000-mile Race Across America, and his ultimate goal now is to do it solo.
