First, on a side note
and a sad one at that, David Bowie
died tonight. I heard the news just
as I sat down to write my thoughts
about last night's opening round
of the 2016 AMA Monster Energy
Supercross Series at Angel Stadium
of Anaheim. I really liked Bowie; he
was an innovator and didn't seem
to care what people thought about
him. Most of his music has stood
up well over the test of time and he
wrote some iconic songs that will
always resonate with the kids of my
generation. Rest in Peace, Ziggy

On to Supercross. Maybe it was
because I didn't get out to the track
until just before opening ceremo-
nies, but the energy level seemed
to be a couple of notches below the
fully charged electric glow of past
years—it was probably just me. The
stadium was packed and less than
a second separated the top 10 450
riders during afternoon qualifying,
definitely a good sign.
Two years ago, Jason Ander-
son and Cole Seely battled to the
wire for the 250 Supercross West
Championship. Anderson was
relentless during that series, often
coming from behind and clawing his
way towards the front, then snatch-
ing victory away from Seely on
SATURDAY NIGHT REWIND
Cole Seely (14) and Jason
Anderson (21) were back at it at
Angel Stadium, this time they were
battling for the lead in the 450SX
class. What a great night of racing.
