T
he 2016 250 and 450
SX-F Factory Edition
models aren't radically
changed (that happened last
year) but they did get a signifi-
cant upgradeāair forks. They are
both fitted with WP's AER48 air
forks, which are said to be 3.1
pounds lighter than the previous
WP 4CS spring forks. This, com-
bined with a lighter (by about a
pound) Akrapovic muffler, makes
the 2016 450 SX-F Factory Edi-
tion approximately four pounds
lighter than the previous model!
This is significant when you
consider that the 450 SX-F was
already the lightest bike in its
class, even with electric starting!
KTM says that its air fork is
very easy to tune and adjust
compared to some of the
other production air forks out
there, which is most people's
complaints with air forks these
days.
Both the orange-framed
250 and 450 FEs get orange-
anodized CNC-machined triple
clamps with rubber handlebar
damping and updated shock
settings. The 450 is said to
weigh 221.3 pounds, the 250
217.2 pounds.
Despite getting new forks,
Ryan Dungey says that he
sticking with his previous and
already proven spring fork for
2016, saying the WP air fork
is just too new, and there is
not enough testing time for the
upcoming racing season, which
is just a few weeks away.
