getting away on a motorcycle, in this case it was in the woods of Colorado…
Eighteen-year-old Tony DiStefano continued his winning ways in the Trans-AMA
Series when he dominated "The American Motocross Finals" at Anaheim Stadium…
We covered the D-37 Last Chance Enduro… We featured part one of "The Flight
of the Ugly Duckling," a story about turning a
Suzuki TM400 motocrosser into a café racer out
of parts found around the house… We tested
Honda's MR 250 dual purpose bike.
30 Years Ago January 8, 1986
Our last issue of 1975 featured an interview with road racer Freddie Spencer,
who was pictured on the cover… Also pictured on the cover was our Honda XR
350 test bike crossing a river in Colorado… We featured a story called: "The
Brawn Boys: When Motorcycles Were Iron And Goggles Were Glass." It
was a look back at the original days of motocross… We hopped up our ZX900
Ninja, calling it the "Attack Ninja"… We visited the
Harley-Davidson factory in Pennsylvania… We
interviewed Formula 2 road racer Don Greene.

Our Rider of the Year was Ricky Carmichael who was featured on the cover
10 years ago. We traveled to Florida and spent the day hanging out with the
Supercross and MX champ at his ranch… We also had interviews with Valentino
Rossi, Chris Carr, Mat Mladin, Juha Salminen and Ivan Tedesco… We
covered the Vancouver round of the Amp'd Mobile World Supercross GP Series,
where James Stewart completed in two-race sweep of Canada… Nathan
Kanney won the Tecate Hare Scrambles in Baja… Steve Hengeveld and
Johnny Campbell teamed up to win the Henderson's Terrible 400.

Supercross Champion Jeremy McGrath was our Cycle News Rider of the Year 20
years ago, and he was pictured on the cover… We featured interviews with McGrath,
Steve Lamson, Miguel DuHamel, Doug Chandler and Jay Springsteen… We
tested the Kawasaki ZX-7R… Our 1996 125cc Motocross Shootout featured
the Honda CR125R, Kawasaki KX125, Suzuki RM125 and the winning Yamaha
YZ125… We reported the passing of America's first World Champion, speedway star
Jack Milne… We rode Honda's experimental
environmentally friendly and Baja-raced EXP-2,
a fuel-injected CR500 two-stroke off-roader,
