CN III VOICES L E T T E R S T O T H E E D I T O R "Young professionals like the Mees' are what is needed to bring flat track back in to prominence." Virtual Museum Awesome shots of the AHRMA Vintage Nationals ("Vintage MX Rocks Texas" issue 48, December 1). It was like getting a free trip to an MX museum. I remember what a few of those bikes felt like. Good job as always with the photography Mark Kariya! Steve Casper Who Was The First? I have always thought I had won the first amateur race at Road America on a motorcycle in September of 1980 (Archives, issue 48, December 1). It was the WERA 3-Hour and I rode a GS1100 with a co-rider. So there were races the year before that? I had never heard of them. Art Davis Throwback Thursdays What a great time [1980 Day- tona Yamaha Legends auto- graph signing]. I remember walking by and wondering what the line was for. Then I looked and thought, "crap, I know who those guys are!" I talked to Bob "Hurricane" Hannah. I knew he lived in Idaho, found out he only lived two miles from me. Strange way to meet your neigh- bor 2000 miles from home. Jerry Walker Promoter Mees Happy about this [Jared Mees promoting the Lima Half Mile]. Young professionals like the Mees' are what is needed to bring flat track back in to promi- nence. Jack Hixson Could it be a first if the pro- moter won the race he or she promoted? Can't wait to see it happen. Jody Emert Wait, what? Someone is going to promote a half mile? But if they do that, somebody might come and watch...no, the races should remain secret. Shawn McAtee Tom Sykes: Impressive In Jerez WSBK Testing Wow. Sure, qualfying tires, times, but impressive, nonethe- less. Great to see Nicky Hayden getting on well with what must be considered the "slow" bike in this crowd. He just may sur- prise some folks. No surprise that the Yamaha is going to be competitive from the get-go. Bob Close P6 Got An Opinion? If you've got an opinion on something you've read in Cycle News.
