SIPES JOINS COASTAL RACING
R
yan Sipes will compete for
a new team in next year's
Amsoil Grand National Cross
Country (GNCC) Series in 2016.
The former Rockstar Energy
Husqvarna rider has joined
the new Coastal Racing Team,
managed by eight-time GNCC
Champion Barry Hawk. The
team isn't exactly brand new;
it made its debut this year in
the ATV division but has now
grown into the two-wheel side of
GNCC racing.
Sipes will again compete in
the XC1 Pro class on a Husqvar-
na FC 350. He finished out the
2015 season sixth in the cham-
pionship, which included five
podium finishes.
Sipes isn't the only rider to
join, he'll have two new team-
mates—Michael Layne and Craig
DeLong.
Layne finished on the podium
twice before sitting out the
second half of the GNCC series
with a wrist injury. He will again
compete in the XC2 Pro class
on an FC 250 Husqvarna.
DeLong was the GNCC Top
Amateur and 250 A Champion in
2014, and finished fourth in XC2
in 2015. The long-time Husky
rider will be competing aboard a
two-stroke TC 250 Husqvarna in
2016. CN
RECORD BREAKER?
N
ot yet, but speedway star Billy Hamill
and crew are trying their hardest to set a
land-speed record in the 500cc AF (Altered
Fuel) class.
Earlier this month, Hamill and Joker Ma-
chine's Geoff Arnold headed to El Mirage
Dry Lake in southern California to break the
record in the Southern California Timing As-
sociation (SCTA) meet. They didn't quite get
it but they did reach 142.806 mph on the Hagon
Shocks, GTR, Monster Energy, Coast Fabrication,
Torco Oils, NGK, Arai, Metal and Speed, Spider
grips, Bell Chambers Racing-backed Jawa. It's
a Production Jawa Longtrack Speedway chas-
sis, fitted with a 500cc GTR speedway motor that
produces 68 bhp. It runs on methanol, weighs 180
pounds and has a two-speed transmission. The
23-inch Avon tires have been shaved and bal-
anced.
They will be back at it soon. CN
A 142.806 mph speedway bike? Yes!
Ryan Sipes will represent the
new Coastal Racing Team
in the motorcycle division in
GNCC next year.
