RED BULL KTM
PREPARES FOR
DAKAR RALLY
F
or the first time in years without their five-time
winner Marc Coma, the Red Bull KTM Factory
Rally team is prepared for battle at the 2016 Dakar
Rally. The team hopes to continue its dominance
at the event despite fielding a team of relatively
fresh riders. Headlining the team is current FIM
Cross-Country Rallies World Champion Matthias
Walkner, but the Austrian is in a race against the
clock as he is recovering from a fractured femur.
He will be joined by British rider Sam Sunderland,
provided he is medically cleared to ride in mid-
December. Australian rally sensation Toby Price
and team veteran Jordi Viladoms will join them, as
will the team's rally rookie Antoine Meo, a former
Enduro World Champion. Spanish rider Laia Sanz
will be seeking another impressive top-10 finish
in the rally aboard a KTM Rally
Factory support ride.
KTM's heavy hitters have
less than six weeks to heal up
and prepare for the 38
th
edition
of the Dakar Rally, which gets
underway on January 3, 2016.
"Sam [Sunderland] is doing everything pos-
sible to be fit for the rally," says KTM rally boss
Alex Doringer. "The team is ready for him to take
part. KTM is again at the Dakar with a very strong
team in 2016." CN
