P114 40 Years Ago December 2, 1975 Tony DiStefano and Jimmy Ellis were the big winners in the ninth round of the Trans-AMA series in Livermore, California with "Tony D" becoming the youngest rider to ever to win two Trans-AMA events. Roger DeCoster suffered a bad crash in the event, a 70 mph endo that ended with his Suzuki broken in half. We did a profile of race promoter Mike Goodwin at his California home, and he talked about growing the sport through more stadium events. Bob Hannah rode his Yamaha to victory in a CMC race at southern California's Carlsbad Raceway. 30 Years Ago December 4, 1985 The revised 1986 Husqvarna 400 Enduro graced the cover of Cycle News three decades ago. We also did a test of Honda's new lightweight road racer, the RS250R. Ed Arnet topped a tough field at the CZ World Championship at Perris Raceway, beating Gary Jones. Both riders rode with long-travel full-floater rear suspension. We reported on Consumer Product Safety Commission member Stuart Statler – who was leading the probe into ATV safety – being accused by a con- gressman of compromising the investigation. 10 Years Ago November 30, 2005 The high-revving 2006 Yamaha YZF-R6 was featured on the cover along with David Knight who won the Las Vegas EnduroCross. We rode the all- new R6 at the Losail Circuit, and reported from the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas where David Knight, who was fresh off his win at the Last Man Stand- ing in Texas, dominated the field. Andrew Short earned the crown at the Bercy Supercross ahead of the fabulous Alessi brothers while Ryan Hughes topped the Harvey Mushman 100 at the Lake Elsinore Grand Prix. 20 Years Ago November 29, 1995 Team Kawasaki's Baja-winning crew of Ty Davis, Ted Hunnicutt and Paul Krause were featured on the cover 20 years ago. The green wrecking crew had just won the Baja 1000 for the eighth year in a row. Johnny Campbell and Jimmy Lewis teamed up to take second. Road racing icon Kevin Schwantz won a NASCAR race in Australia in his NASCAR debut. Jeremy McGrath was crowned the "King of Bercy" Supercross. We took a look at new Yamaha motocross and off-road bikes, and test rode the 1996 Honda CBR900RR. LOOKING BACK Subscribe to nearly 50 years of Cycle News Archive issues: www.CycleNews.com/Archives
