DAVE MCCOY –
KING OF MAMMOTH
Tom White, founder of the World Vet Moto-
cross Championship, was proud to not only
emcee the event, but also present the 2015
Edison Dye Lifetime Motocross Achievement
Award during a ceremony between the motos.
This year's award went to Dave McCoy – King
of Mammoth Mountain.
McCoy, who celebrated his 100
th
birthday
in August of this year, was the driving force
behind the creation of Mammoth Mountain Ski
Area, which he ran for 68 years up until 2005.
During that time he also created the Mammoth
Mountain Motocross, a race that world-class
racers have flocked to since its inception in
1968. It still continues today, and is the old-
est continuous running motocross event in
America.
Although McCoy wasn't able to accept the
award in person, his grandson Casey McCoy
was on hand for the presentation. During the
ceremony, White showcased a video about
McCoy's life, also featuring 1998 award winner
Rick Johnson.
