F
ollowing a devastating wreck at the Los
Angeles Supercross in 2012, Star Rac-
ing Yamaha racer Ryan Morais decided
it was time to hang up his boots and start the
next chapter of his life. Fortunately the next
year Morais found a new home at KTM North
America as the team coordinator for Red Bull
KTM, where he still works today.
His infamous L.A. Supercross wreck left
Morais with a horrifying list of serious inju-
ries including several fractured vertebrae, a
collapsed lung, concussion, several broken
ribs and a fractured jaw that left him with his
jaw wired shut for several weeks, but Morais
didn't let it turn him off from racing com-
pletely, and certainly hasn't turned away from
riding.
His tasks at KTM include testing and devel-
opment so Morais hasn't lost his step on the
track. In his second attempt at the World Vet
MX the 32-year-old came away with the 30+
Pro title and the major share of the $4000
purse. He rode to a 2-1 finish, pulling away
to the second moto victory after fellow KTM
test rider Mike Sleeter suffered a mechanical
setback.
