JEFF MATIASEVICH
O
n any given track day at Glen Helen,
the guy riding out of the Pro Circuit
boxvan is one of today's top Super-
cross racers. But at the World Vet MX, it was
time for a rewind. Former Team Green sensa-
tion Jeff Matiasevich, who still rides with the
support of Kawasaki and Pro Circuit, was the
factory star and raced both days of the event.
The "Chicken" still rides quite a bit, and
contests local events on occasion (even
though he declares he doesn't like "spending
all day at the track to do 10 laps"). He now
makes his living in quite a different arena.
"My family owns a produce company sup-
plying all the chain stores nationwide with
produce; basically organic produce," Matia-
sevich explained. "I went to work with them
and my account is Albertson's. So that's what
I handle. That's what keeps me busy and I
also ride quite a bit – like three times a week
or so."
Kawasaki and Pro Circuit are still proud to
support Matiasevich in his casual endeavors.
And though he has been asked several times
to coach and/or train current Supercross rac-
ers, he prefers to remain at arm's length with
today's racing crowd.
"I like the environment; I like the sport. It's
in my blood," said Matiasevich. "But once you
get to that level, I think it's up to the rider. Ev-
erybody knows what it takes to win and it re-
ally depends on whether you want to put the
effort into achieving your goal. I don't think it's
bad that some of these ex riders are working
with other riders, but I just don't really feel like
wasting my time with it."
Still riding fast and
looking factory,
Jeff "Chicken"
Matiasevich was a
worthy contender
in the 40+ Pro
feature.
