T
he Boss, as he was formerly known
at KTM, still has ties to the Austrian
manufacturer, and credits much of
his success at the World Vet MX to his new
2016 KTM 450 SX-F. But since his days as a
Race Director for KTM North America, which
succeeded his days as a four-time 500cc
runner-up in the FIM Motocross Grand Prix
Championship, Nicoll has found a new home
within the Nitro Circus Family.
Today Nicoll works as the Vice President
of Global Touring at Nitro Circus, overseeing
the cross-country tour of the live show put on
by Travis Pastrana's motley crew. Although
he works behind the scenes, he does admit
to having taken more than one trip down the
infamous giganta-ramp.
Since his days as a professional moto-
crosser, Nicoll has contested other forms of
racing such as Supermoto and EnduroCross
where he has earned multiple national cham-
pionships. But rather than chase another Vet
EnduroCross title in 2015, he elected to focus
on motocross in order to make a "proper ef-
fort" in the World Vet MX Championship – a
title that has been missing from his racing
resume.
"This year I've only been riding moto," said
Nicoll. "I've been trying to concentrate and do
this race properly for once. I think I first did
this race in 2007 or something and I should
have won that year and my wheel broke in
the second moto. But back then I was early
40s and I thought, no problem, I'll win this
in another few years. But since then Doug's
beaten me every year."
Nicoll now 50 years old, was thrilled to
bring home the 40+ Pro trophy, and nearly
had the 50+ Expert win as well, but couldn't
quite wrestle it away from Dubach.
