PEARSON GETS LAST LAUGH AT LAUGHLIN HARE SCRAMBLES T here was no championship on the line at the eighth and final round of the Kenda/SRT AMA West Hare Scrambles Champi- onship Series, SRT KTM's Cory Graffunder having wrapped that up at round seven last month. But spots on the podium—and a few class championships—were still up for grabs at the Laughlin Hare Scramble Challenge, co- sanctioned by AMRA (via Xtreme Motorcycle Club) and MRAN (Dark Side M.C.), in Laughlin, Nevada, November 7. None of these spots up for grabs were closer than the one for second in the series, with Purvines Racing Beta's Nick Bur- son and Maxxis/FMF/RPM Rac- ing KTM's Travis Coy deadlocked at 142 points apiece. It would be settled simply: Whoever beat the other would walk away with the number two plate. Off the start, it was obvious that Coy wanted it badly as he rocketed off the line with a clear holeshot aboard his SixFiveO Racing/Bonanza Plumbing/Mo- KTM 300 XC instead of his usual 450. "Nick got past me early on, but he crashed a couple miles in and I ran into him and went over the bars," Coy said. "We were both laying on the ground; I got up first and took off, leading. "I led the majority of that first lap, and I had to pit after the first lap being on the two-stroke and I knew [Burson] wasn't going to have to." That put Burson in the driver's IN THE WIND P20 Travis Coy rocketed off the start, though his time in front was short-lived, but he came away with second place in the championship.
