2016 TRIUMPH THRUXTON AND THRUXTON R
O
kay, take everything we
just said about the T120
and add more. That's
essentially what you're getting
with the all-new Thruxton—more
power, better suspension, better
brakes, more noise. More of
what we like.
The Thruxton broke the first
100 mph lap at the Isle of Man
all those years ago and thus has
a very special place in Hickley's
heart, so for next year it gets the
biggest torque increase available
with this new generation, water-
cooled, 1200cc parallel-twin
engine—a whopping 62 percent
increase to 82.6 ft-lb at 4950
rpm over the old Thruxton!
We thought the T120 had a
big increase; the Thruxton's is
stratospheric!
The torque increase on what
Triumph is calling the "High
Power" eight-valve unit comes
by way of a lighter crank, higher
compression, all-new exhaust
system and a redesigned airbox.
You get all the other features of
the T120 and T120 Black (Ride-
By-Wire throttle, traction control,
ABS, etc), but as this engine
produces much more torque
higher up in the rev range, don't
be surprised if a few Thruxtons
don't start popping up at some
local track days.
The exhausts house beautiful
traditional reverse-cone mufflers
that Triumph claims give serious
bark as well as keep the Thruxton

The Thruxton R
(on left) is clearly
the star of the
show, mixing
old-school cool
with new-school
suspension and
brakes.
