VOL. 52 ISSUE 43 OCTOBER 27, 2015 P43
Z
ero's DS has been a
solid performer for
the Californian elec-
tric motorcycle moguls,
and for 2016 will get a new
brother in the DSR.
The DSR will come
in at $15,995, a $2000
premium over the DS,
and features an all-new
Z-Force brushless electric
motor designed to give
more power for longer,
with a vastly reduced
charge time. Zero is
claiming the DSR's
Z-Force 75-7 motor will
deliver 56 percent more
torque and 25 percent
more power than the DS,
with numbers now hitting
68 lb-ft of torque and 54
horsepower.
However, where one
of the biggest changes
comes with the DSR is
in charge time. Zero is
claiming the DSR, when
coupled with the Charge
Tank accessory, will
recharge at triple the
speed of pre-2016 models.
The DSR is designed
for Level 2 charging and
public charging stations
using the J1772 standard,
with the new ZF13.0 power
pack capable of charging
to 95 percent within three
hours, and up to 49 miles
per hour of charging.
The aluminum twin-spar
chassis has been stiffened
up and is matched to
custom Showa fully
adjustable forks, and
Showa also provides a
fully adjustable rear shock.
There's also the Bosch
Gen 9 ABS system, J-Juan
twin piston calipers up
front and Pirelli MT-60
rubber on the ground.
The Zero DSR comes
with a five year/100,000-
mile warranty and will be
in dealerships this coming
November.
