We covered the ISDT which was held at Isle of Man, England. West Germany
claimed victory. The U.S. Trophy Team's hopes of a top finisht was quickly
dashed when Tom Penton's bike caught fire before the very first check…
Marty Smith was the star at the Trans-AMA MX Series in Herman, Nebraska,
where he went 1-2 on his Honda CR400 to take the overall win in the
International class. Roger DeCoster went
3-1 for second place… We tested the $6,500
MV Agusta and the KTM 400 Enduro.
30 Years Ago November 6, 1985
Yamaha's new FZX700S Fazer was pictured in action on the cover of Cycle
News 30 years ago to accompany our report on Yamaha's latest line of
street bikes… We covered the 7
th
running of the ABC-TV/Superbikers race
at Carlsbad Raceway. Eddie Lawson took the win for the second time on a
Yamaha YZ490… The final round of the CMC/Trans-Cal Series played out
at Gorman, California, where Drey Dircks, Brett Cahors and Willy Simons
clinched the pro-class titles… Can-Am's Johnny Martin clinched the
National Hare Scrambles title in Ohio.

one of which was featured in action on the cover. We also featured Troy
Corser's winning Suzuki GSX-R1000 on the cover, ridden by road-test guru
Alan Cathcart… We covered Marco Melandri's first MotoGP win in Turkey…
Ty Davis and crew were the big winners at the 24-Hours of Glen Helen…
Greg Hancock claimed his sixth AMA National Speedway Championship at
Fast Fridays Speedway in Auburn, California… Chuck Woodford captured
the Hare Scrambles National Championship.

Point GNCC in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania, riding a "solid"-wheel Honda
XR600 Honda… Rick Johnson made his
NASCAR debut driving a Chevy Supertruck.
