head, chest and spinal injuries took
another step during the Malaysian
GP, with the San Marino rider finally
leaving Japan to fly home on Sun-
day. De Angelis faces at least three
months recuperation but is expected
to make a complete recovery. His
E-motion Ioda team has promised
his seat will be available to him next
season.

Barbera was in trouble again in Ma-
laysia after a headlong crash that
brought down fellow-Spaniard Pol
Espargaro. Barbera was pinned for
irresponsible riding, given four pen-
alty points to bring his total to four,
with the inevitable back-of-the grid
start as a result.
The coveted job of official MotoGP
test rider for KTM has been linked in
the past to Nicky Hayden and Karel
Abraham—but now the cat is out of
the bag from the Austrian manufac-
turer. Finn Mika Kallio will renew
his links to take up the role. Kallio
rode for KTM in 125, finishing sec-
ond overall in 2005 and 2006, and
in 250, placed third in 2008. He was
also runner up in Moto2 last year.
Turning 33 in November, Kallio will
head testing of KTM's 2017 MotoGP
entry.

toGP calendar in 2017, with events
set in motion in Malaysia with a high-
