CN III VOICES L E T T E R S T O T H E E D I T O R "As pit steward he was always a stickler for the rules but would give you a side hug and a smile as he chewed your ass." Riding On A Passport? Wasn't it Nicky Hayden that once said, "That guy's riding on a passport"? It may have been him or Colin Edwards, I can't recall. But what I do know is that it's long overdue that Hayden leaves MotoGP and takes on another series. Yes, I'm all for the American racer and want Americans in MotoGP, or any series, and winning it, or giving a gritty race for us to watch. But something top athletes rarely know is "when to say when," other than Casey Stoner or the well-loved Troy Bayliss. These guys knew when to walk away. And then there is Ben Spies? But I'm psyched to start watching World Superbike with the same enthusiasm I used to have watching World Superbike root- ing for the Americans dueling it out with the rest of the world. C'mon Nicky, the days of old may be back! Jaime Ponce Arthur "Pickle" Pickelheimer It is with sadness I pass on this obituary to you and the Cycle News readers. Art was well known in the pits of any flat track, dual sport, or enduro races, (both national and ama- teur). As pit steward he was always stickler for the rules but would give you a side hug and a smile as he chewed your ass. Pickelheimer, 77, of Colum- bus, Ohio, formerly of Ports- mouth, died Monday, October 5, 2015, at his residence. He was born November 15, 1937, in Cincinnati to the late Arthur and Elma Vogel Pickelheimer. Art was in the Army National Guard and a Motorcycle Me- chanic. He was a life member of the American Motorcycle Association, and served as President of the Ohio Motor- cycle Association, District 11, for 27 years. In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death by two sons; Ronald and Brent Pickel- heimer, and a brother, Ronald Pickelheimer. He is survived by his wife, Donna Scherer Pickelheimer, a son, John Pickelheimer (JoyEllen) of Washington Court House, two grandsons; Joshua and Joey Pickelheimer of Washington Court House, a brother, Bruce Pickelheimer of Xenia, two sisters; Delores Harper of Hamilton and Pamela Chiappone of Cincinnati, and several nieces and nephews. Joseph Wahrer Tomac And Kawasaki Not much time to prepare for 2016 and Anaheim I, but if anyone can come out and compete with a new bike and fresh off an injury layoff, it's Eli Tomac. I'm sending wishes and prayers his way, in this new chapter of his career. If the Ka- wasaki suits him (and I think it will), by mid-season he should be well into the hunt for race wins. Go Tomac! Todd Dooley Yamaha FZ-07 Dirt Tracker If you build it they will come. Mike Dowell If you build it I will buy it. Bruce Oberg Letters to the editor can be sent to voices@cyclenews.com.
