STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY STEVE COX
S
ure, the Monster Energy Cup
was intended to create oppor-
tunities for the world outside
Supercross to be able to show up
and be competitive on a toned-
down, higher-speed Supercross
track and compete for a potential
$1,000,000 (as well as allow ama-
teur 250F and Supermini pilots the
chance to develop their indoor-rac-
ing skills), but the number of MXGP
competitors and others who have
competed over the five-year history
of the event has been pretty dismal.
Instead, the race has turned into an
off-season progress report for the
AMA's top Supercross racers, show-
ing them in racing terms how their
testing and training is coming along
in comparison to their competition
about 10 weeks before the start of
the following Monster Energy AMA
Supercross Series.
And at least for RCH Suzuki's Ken
Roczen, things are looking pretty
good right about now.
