40 Years Ago October 21, 1975
It was all things Harley-Davidson in Cycle News 40 years ago. We tested the
limited edition Harley-Davidson 250 MX, we covered Mike Kidd's ABC Race
of Champions win (on a Harley, of course) in Louisville, Kentucky, we hung out
with new AMA Grand National Champion, Harley-Davidson's Hank Scott, and
we chatted with John Harley, and William and John Davidson. At the time, it
wasn't often that you could get these three in the
same room at the same time, but we did… Alex
Jorgensen wrapped up the Ascot points title.
30 Years Ago October 23, 1985
Cycle News traveled to Spain and the Pyrenees to cover the International
Six Days Enduro. Sweden won the event, while the American team, made
up of Brian Mull, Larry Roeseler, Dave Bertram, Jeff Fredette, Geoff
Ballard and Johnny Martin, finished fourth. Bertram was the top American
class finisher… George Holland and Greg Zitterkopf were the big winners
at the CMC Trans-Cal Supercross in Madera, California… Alan "Crazy"
Christian won the Coors U.S. National
Speedway Championship.
20 Years Ago October 18, 1995
Ty Davis grabbed a big chunk of the cover 20 years ago for clinching the
1995 AMA Enduro National title in Texas. It was both Davis' and Kawasaki's
first National Enduro Championship… Alex Criville won the Catalonian
Grand Prix over Sinichi Harada and Loris Capirossi… Scott Parker
earned his 69
th
career victory at the Pomona Half Mile. It was his fifth win
at Pomona… We interviewed motocrosser Damon Huffman after his
switch from Suzuki to Kawasaki… Scott
Plessinger won the Wilderness 500
GNCC/Hare Scrambles in Virginia.

Ricky Carmichael in all his glory was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 10
years ago for winning the U.S. Open at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las
Vegas. He won both nights and pocketed $100,000. It was also his third win
at the event. Bret Metcalfe won the Lites class overall… We covered Chris
Vermeulen's World Superbike win at the Magny-Cours Circuit in France…
Shane Watts topped the OMA National round, the Coyote Cross-Country, in
Iowa… Henny Ray Abrams interviewed Yamaha President Takashi Kajikawa.
