from more than just a live feed
to more closely resembling a
proper production.
"Over the course of the year
we expanded from just doing
real simple line cuts – which was
just the cameras with PA feed
– to now doing full production
here with flat track, where we
have talent that we're coordinat-
ing," Crouch said. "We are doing
a line cut. We've got graphics,
we've got a ticker. So we've got
a lot of the bells and whistles
that we didn't have coming out of
the gate on day one.
"So we've made a lot of
progress. I'm really proud of the
team. They've done a really good
job and they've produced some
really good coverage. It's hard
work. It's long days, long nights,
but at the end of the day the
feedback we're getting from the
fans is that they're able to watch
the sport and see more of it than
they've ever really been able
to see. Eight to 10 hours of live
coverage is a lot of coverage. So
we're really proud to be a part of
the team that's bringing that to
the fans."
Although there's the high tech
part of it, Crouch said the most
valuable resource for making it
happen are the people.
"I don't have any cool num-
bers, like when the Superbowl
goes and they say we have
seven-million feet of cable," he
said. "We do everything wire-
lessly, which is cool. We do
everything with batteries, so we
don't need generators, we don't
need power. We can use power
and generators and then use our
batteries as a fail over, which is
great.
"In terms of resources, peo-
ple are the biggest and most
important part. We try to do this
thing as lean as possible, but
every time we want to take it to
the next level we realize that our
team is great and we are locked
and loaded, but to do more you
need another person here, you
need another person there.
"So that's one of the things
that we're looking at now, is
what does it really take to add
some more, to do live on-
boards, to do things like that
that we know we're capable of?
What is it going to take for us to
get to that next level? Those are
some of the things that we're
looking at right now." CN
IN TERMS OF RESOURCES PEOPLE
ARE THE BIGGEST AND MOST
IMPORTANT PART.
Here's an example of a typical
camera setup. It's all done
wirelessly with up to least 12 hours
of battery life.
