THE DU QUOIN TIRE CONTROVERSY
T
here is a heated controversy
surrounding the way the test-
ing was done on a rear tire from
Jared Mees' Harley-Davidson
used during the Du Quoin Mile
in July. AMA Pro Racing re-
leased a statement on the tire
controversy Thursday. Strangely
the statement issued by AMAP
never mentioned the team or rid-
er in question involved in the tire
controversy, although when talk-
ing directly to AMAP personnel
they admit the tire in question
was from Mees' Rogers Racing
Harley-Davidson machine.
Mees' rear tire had consid-
erably more wear than other
competitors after the Du Quoin
National, raising suspicion
from some competing teams
that Mees' tire may have been
chemically modified (or doped
as it's popularly called) to pro-
vide Mees with more traction,
especially in the early laps.
