P136 40 Years Ago October 7, 1975 Our feature story 40 years ago was all things road racing but mainly at the grass-roots level. We focused on what road racing is all about and our love affair with the sport… The buzz of the week was the opening round of the Trans AMA Motocross Series at Road Atlanta, where Jim Pomeroy got things going with a win in the 500cc class over Roger DeCoster. Jimmy Ellis was the 250cc support class… Kenny Roberts won the Ascot National Half Mile in grand-slam style. 30 Years Ago October 9, 1985 Back by popular demand, we brought back David Bailey's How To Be A Motocross Star Series. The first installment featured the author himself on the cover 30 years ago… We covered the final round of the Grand National Championship/Camel Pro Series, the Sacramento Mile. Scott Parker nipped fellow Harley-Davidson rider Wayne Rainey for the victory… George Holland was the big winner at the Trans-Cal MX round at Sand Hill Ranch in California… Terry Cunningham won the Black Coal Enduro in Illinois. They had just finished 1-2 at the AMA Superbike final at Firebird Raceway, where DuHamel wrapped up the title… We covered Mick Doohan's win at the Argentine Grand Prix. Max Biaggi won the 250 Grand Prix… Kevin Varnes won the Knoxsville Raceway Half Mile… Ty Davis and Larry Roeseler teamed up to win the Tonopah 300… Fred Andrews won the Bunner's Ridge GNCC in West Virginia. LOOKING BACK 10 Years Ago October 5, 2005 Two of motorcycle racing's greatest ever shared the cover of Cycle News 10 years ago, Ricky Carmichael for leading Team USA to victory at the Motocross des Nations, and Valentino Rossi for wrapping up his seventh straight World Road Racing title. Carmichael's teammates in Ernee, France, were Kevin Windham and Ivan Tedesco… We covered the 80 th ISDE in Povazsky Bystrika, Slovakia. Italy won, Team USA was 10 th … We covered the AMA Supermoto in Tennessee, where Germany's Jurgen Kunzel took the win and Mark Burkhart took the title.
