OLIVEIRA LEADS THE SWARM
Perhaps the collective noun for
Moto3 should be a "a swarm", be-
cause the 10 in the lead group were
changing back and forth so much it
was like trying to count bees. Typical
Moto3 madness. Then on the final lap
it went really crazy.
Gresini Honda's Enea Bastianini
had qualified on pole, and led the first
lap; but as usual it was somewhat no-
tional, with shuffling at every overtak-
ing point, and elsewhere.
Red Bull KTM's Miguel Oliveira
was the next to lead, then Ongetta
Rivacold Honda's Niccolo Antonelli a
few times. Most of it went to Oliveira,
with points leader Danny Kent on the
Leopard Honda also showing as the
laps wore down. Then second Red
Bull KTM rider Brad Binder pushed
through to the front.
By the last lap fast starting rookie
Jorge Martin on the Mapfre Mahindra
had lost touch, but the first nine were
still covered by less than 1.5 seconds.
Tactics were everything, with Oliveira
once again the best at it for a third win
of the year.
Tactics. Or some rough bumping
and barging.
That is what did it for Bastianini and
Binder, when the former cannoned
into the latter's back wheel and both
went down. Kent now had a clear run
to regain important points, as he took
second going into the last corner.
Then a gasp. He too crashed,
sensationally, in an unforced error,
handing the place to rostrum first-tim-
er Jorge Navarro on the E-G Honda.
The rest were promoted three
places: Romano Fenati on the SKY
VR46 KTM third; then Kent's team-
mate Efren Vazquez and Philipp Oettl
on the Schedl KTM. Antonelli was
sixth—forced off track by Kent's crash;
Martin a career-best seventh.
