Briefly...
the history and really follow this
sport, and they're really happy that
a Russian has done this again. It's
a strange feeling to be third to be
honest. Until I get my medal, for me
it's difficult to believe it, as it's been
such a long time to do this in the
championship. I knew always that I
could do this and my speed was top-
three. In Mexico when I secured the
place it was a strange feeling, and I
was thinking 'why don't I feel it yet?'
but since then I start thinking more
'wow, I'm third!' I feel just a great sat-
isfaction inside."
Monster Energy Kawasaki's Thom-
as Covington, winner of the Grand
Prix of Mexico the week before,
didn't get a chance to show his fel-
low Americans what he is capable
of in the MX2 class. Crashes in both
motos kept him from finishing in the
top 10 overall.
Cooper Webb used the race mainly
as prep for next week's MX of Na-
tions in France. Webb, who normally
rides a 250, has been recruited to
ride a 450 in the MXoN. His first race
on the bike went well. Cooper only
had a few hours on the bike but went
out and immediately was in conten-
tion for the win, putting up a good
fight with the World champ Febvre
and Grant. He ended up third overall
and will go into the MXoN full of con-
fidence. "Overall I'm really happy,"
Cooper said. "It was a whole new ex-
perience for me, a new format, new
machine. It was a nice warm-up and
I got to see how these guys race. I
feel I have benefitted hugely from
being here. We got a lot of good in-
formation. I'm looking forward to next
week now."
