Benoit Paturel (Kaw) 13-9 riders," McElrath said. "I learned a lot, and it was good to check out how it works. We ride Glen Helen a lot, but the track was quite different, the bumps were different and it got more beat up than usual, but it was probably the best I've ever seen it." But the real story in MX2 was the race for the title, which was basically all Gajser's from the start, barring any disasters. Gajser rode well, seemingly more content at keeping Jonass at bay rather than trying to beat the TLD guys. He finished a couple of spots ahead of Jonass in the first moto and swatted him back in the second moto after the two went at it for a while. Jonass faded a bit in the heat and Gajser went on to win a very deserving title that saw many riders win over the course of the Briefly... heat with eighth overall. "Not too bad today," he said. "One positive point is that I picked myself up in these conditions [heat]. Normally I cannot handle it too well and today I suffered but not as much as usual. I'm happy about that even if it is a point to work on. In the first moto [Shaun] Simp- son crashed in front of me and I hit his bike and went down. I came from the back to 12th, which was pretty good, but it cost me a lot of energy. In the second moto, I didn't start so well again, passed a few guys and finished seventh. It is not the result we wanted but it is not bad for me in these conditions." So what's next for Josh Grant now that his temporary ride at Kawasaki is over? "I'm done after this race," he said. "So, hopefully things change and I can move forward and really fo- cus on what I really want to do. I love dirt bikes, you know, so I just want to race." Even in the FIM World Cham- pionship? "If it was on the table, most definitely," Grant said. "Like I said, I love motorcycles, I love moto- cross and that's just the way it is; I'd love to. I just hope [his performance at Glen Helen] shows to somebody [and] helps me out for next year." There is a chance, however, that he might ride the Monster Energy Cup still with the Kawasaki team. Red Bull KTM's Marvin Musquin made his debut on the a 450. Mus- quin looked fast and fluid on the bike but didn't push it. He finished in the top 10 in the first moto but pulled out of the second moto. Gasjer (center), Jonass and Max Anstie celebrate their 1-2-3 finish in the MX2 Championship.
