VOL. 52 ISSUE 38 SEPTEMBER 22, 2015 P89
He was in a position to win and
he looked fast and comfortable
on the 450, which should give
him confidence going into next
weekend's Motocross of Nations
in France. Afterward, Webb said
he felt good on the bike and was
pleased with his performance,
but was disappointed not to win.
But that is typical of Webb.
MX2
It was the TLD/KTM show in
MX2 with Nelson and McElrath
going 1-2 in the overall column.
Nelson was just plain fast and no
one could catch him on what is
also his home track, though both
McElrath and Monster Energy/
Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Chris
and feeling ready for the next
race.
"I just put my head down, I put
a lot of time in at this track and I
just wanted to do really well and
overcome [the injury]. The sec-
ond moto I left it all on the table."
With Grant finishing third in
the first moto, Webb, at that
point, was USA's biggest hope
to get the victory—a win in the
second moto, which certainly
looked doable by how he rode in
the first moto, would guarantee
him the overall win, no matter
what Febvre did. A small bobble
early in the race while battling up
front, however, would end that
chance, but Webb had a lot of
positives to take out of the race.
Briefly...
And where were his MXoN team-
mates Jeremy Martin and Justin
Barcia who were originally slated to
compete at Glen Helen? Evidently,
the two riders never really intended
to ride the Glen Helen GP in the first
place, wanting to instead remain fo-
cused strictly on the MXoN and not
mess with all the travel involved.
Cooper, however, needed to get the
experience racing the 450.
Like many of the MX2 competitors,
Valentin Guillod had an up-and-
down season, and that continued a
bit at Glen Helen. He finished off the
season fourth and will move up to
the MXGP class next year. "I've had
a lot of bad luck in the last few rac-
es. I don't believe in 'bad luck,' but
I did have difficulty in understanding
why I was crashing so much or rid-
ers were jumping on me. It was all
experience and I had the goal of fin-
ishing on the podium for my last MX2
GP and that's what I did. It was really
awesome to ride here. We started
the year not knowing much about
the Yamaha YZ250F but I think we
showed that it is a great bike and my
team did a great job all year. We kept
working really hard and at the begin-
ning of the season I was not feeling
so good on the race bike but we fi-
nally found the good setup from the
GP of Spain. To have three GP wins
and six podiums and finish fourth in
the championship is still a very good
season and I'm the most successful
Swiss in GPs. I have to congratulate
Tim [Gajser] for his title. We have al-
ways raced with respect and he did
a great job."
