TEXAS TORNADO BOOT CAMP
P64
Suffice to say this place is
rather a lot of fun if you're into
having fun. Spending four days
hanging out with a guy I've been
watching on TV as long as I can
remember, making actual friends
I want to stay in contact with, rid-
ing bikes, learning skills, shoot-
ing guns, drinking good beer and
eating great food, is my idea of a
good time. It's like Colin and his
buddies decided to build exactly
the kind of place they wanted to
hang out at, and let others come
along for the ride.
There is a serious side to the
camp, too. You're not paying all
this money just so you can brag
about hanging with a world cham-
pion for a few days. You want to
learn, improve, and come away
with skills you thought you never
had the capacity to acquire.
It's impossible not to learn at
a place like the TTBC. Not with
instructors the caliber of two-time
AMA Grand National Champion
Jake Johnson, AMA Superbike
rider Corey West, former AMA
Supersport gun Shea Fouchek,
and Head Instructor Joe Prus-
siano, himself a three-time Pikes
Peak class winner. These guys,
especially Johnson, can make
it seem like his little Yamaha TT-
R125 is a nice young lady he's
just picked up and they're in a
romantic, dusty courtship. The
way this guy bends and slides
and contorts a bike to his will is
at times mesmerizing, always
inspirational. Watching instruc-
