BOU WINS 9
TH
TRIAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
R
epsol Honda continues to
rewrite the history books as
Toni Bou sealed an incredible
ninth successive FIM Trial World
Championship when he won the
second day of the Portuguese
Grand Prix, hosted at Paços de
Ferreira/Santo Tirso, Portugal,
September 5-6. Bou's 13th win
of the current campaign proved
to be anything but unlucky as
he claimed his ninth outdoor
crown to add to the nine FIM
Indoor/X-Trial World Champion-
ships he has already won to now
give him 18 individual FIM World
titles with one round of the 2015
series still remaining.
In warm and dry conditions
Bou clinched his latest title with
his usual style by delivering two
clean laps to end day two of the
Portuguese GP six marks clear
of runner-up Adam Raga (Gas
Gas). Raga again did his abso-
lute best to beat both Bou on
the day and to keep the champi-
onship alive until the final round
in seven days' time, but Raga's
only consolation on the day was
for him to secure second place
in the series, as like Bou he can
now not be caught irrespective
of his results next weekend.
Albert Cabestany (Sherco) re-
turned to the podium after failing
to feature in the top three at the
previous round in the USA.
"Nine titles! I'm really
pleased," said Bou. "The high
level of the rivals forced me to
raise my game. I want to thank
my folk, my parents, my girl-
friend and all the team members
who have worked so hard to
help achieve this title. Thanks a
lot to all." CN
DEPP KEEN FOR DOOHAN DOCUMENTARY
H
ollywood star Johnny Depp has revealed he
is very interested in making a documentary
on Australian 500cc Grand Prix World Champion
Mick Doohan.
Depp and Doohan recently struck up a friend-
ship during Depp's tenure in Australia when
filming the latest installment of the Pirates of the
Caribbean franchise, with Depp and wife Amber
Herd staying at the five-time World Champion's
mansion on Queensland's Gold Coast.
Speaking to Australian news website news.
com.au, Depp said, "I want to do a documentary
about him [Doohan], he's a wonderful man."
Doohan took five consecutive World titles for
Repsol Honda between 1994 and 1998, only to
crash in practice for the 1999 Spanish Grand
Prix at Jerez, suffering career-ending injuries.
Since his retirement, Doohan has built a business
empire that entails property, nightclubs, financial
loans and private jet leasing.
Toni Bou clinched his ninth FIM Trial World Championship.
