WE TAKE HARLEY'S WIDE TIRE CHOPPER
FOR A CRUISE DOWN THE SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA COASTLINE.
Taking style shots
at the 2000s, the
Breakout proves you
can be a little old
school and still cool.
STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHY
BY JASON ABBOTT
T
he Breakout takes a page
from the 2000's when
wide rear tires ruled the
scene and American Chopper
ran nonstop on the Discovery
Channel. A low seating posi-
tion, large split tank, drag-style
handlebars and large wheels,
including a 240mm rear tire,
give the Breakout a low, mus-
cular profile like many of the
custom builds you would see
come out of the OCC shop. A
black and chrome H-D twin-cam
103 c.i engine and six-speed
Cruise Drive transmission sit
nicely in the Softail chassis with
its hardtail look, but the amazing
shine of the Hard Candy custom
paint is what my eyes are drawn
to most. The side-mounted
license plate with three-in-one
stop/turn/tail lights keep things
stylish. The Breakout also has
a new four-piston caliper and
300mm rotor at front, equipped
with ABS.
The first thing you notice
when sitting on the Breakout
is its long and wide profile and
how low the seat and handle-
bar positioning are. Combine
that with the upward sloping
gas tank and the forward con-
trols and you have a motorcycle
