BURSON WINS
MULEY RUN
HARE & HOUND
P
urvines Racing Beta's Nick
Burson came back from the
summer break to dominate the
Silver State Trailblazers' Fourth
Annual Muley Run, presented
by Purvines Racing, aboard his
Precision Concepts/Motul/
Klim-backed 498 RR. After
being first to the bomb, he led
all three loops at round seven
of the Kenda/SRT AMA Hare
& Hound National Champion-
ship Series for his first series
win since round three last year.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's
Jacob Argubright and FMF KTM
Factory Off-road Racing support
rider Gary Sutherlin rounded out
the top three in the next-to-last
round of the series.
"Every out-of-state round,
the start is everything," Burson
observed. "If you watch, there's
not any passing after we sort
ourselves out, of the top guys;
there's no passing.
"It's a 100-mile race, but I
think it comes down to the first
two miles, really."
Blais Racing Services KTM's
Skyler Howes actually led the
charge to the bomb, which was
at the top of a small, powdery
hill, but Burson kept his bike
pinned to steal the lead. From
that point on, he stayed out
front, his only challenge coming
at the end of the first loop when
he missed a turn into the Lincoln
County Fairgrounds pit area.
"I turned around and got my
bike stuck under the fence and
was freaking out!" he related.
"I had a 40-second lead, then
Jake came up to me, passed
me, but then he didn't know
where to go so I got him back."
Argubright was third at the
bomb aboard his Bel-Ray/FMF/
Moose Racing FC 450, pass-
ing Howes before the alternate
gas but unable to mount a real
charge for the lead: "I stayed
close enough for a little bit, but
I kept making a lot of mistakes.
I crashed about five times in
one mile! After that, I was pretty
beat; I was just out of energy."
Unlike the others, Sutherlin
had to recover from a somewhat
bad start on his Dunlop/Mo-
torex/DA8 Training 450 XC-F.
"I pretty much just went nuts [in
the wash right after the bomb],"
he said. "Right off the bat in
the first little wash I passed
three or four guys. I got on Ivan
[Ramirez] and battled him for a
second and knew I had to make
my move and get away from him
and I did. Once I got around
him, I was in a bunch of dust
