ANSTIE, FEBVRE MASTER MANTOVA GP
OF LOMBARDIA
G
reat Britain's Max Anstie and French-
man Romain Febvre were both double
moto winners at the MXGP of Lombardia in
Mantova, Italy, August 23. Kawasaki's Anstie
worked to the front of both motos and ran off
with the overall victory in the MX2 class. It
was his third GP win of the year.
As for Febvre, the Yamaha rider dominated
both MXGP motos and now enjoys a near
insurmountable 101-point lead over Gautier
Paulin with just three GPs left. He could clinch
the MXGP championship at the next round.
"It was a really good weekend and started
from Saturday when I saw that I had the
speed," Febvre said. "My starts were not
great today, but I managed to pass and lead both
motos. I'm really happy to be back on top of the
box. We are getting close now to the end [of the
season] and the title can be won next weekend.
We will see. I think next weekend will be even
sandier and it will be easy to make a mistake. We
need to stay on two wheels and keep pushing."
Paulin had a tough time in Italy. Bad starts and
crashes relegated him to sixth overall with 4-6
results, but he still enjoys a comfortable lead over
Honda rider Evgeny Bobryshev, who finished third
overall at Mantova, in the race for second place in
the championship.
Febvre's teammate Jeremy Van Horebeek
finished out the day second overall with a pair of
second-place finishes.
As for the MX2 class, the race for the title is a
lot closer. Latvia's Pauls Jonass leads Honda rider
Tim Gajser by just four points. Jonass was third at
Mantova after going 2-3.
As for Anstie, the Brit currently resides third in the
championship but 38 points behind Jonass. CN
BONNEVILLE CANCELLED
P
oor conditions on the salt flats have resulted in
the cancellation of this year's AMA Land Speed
Grand Championship that was scheduled for Au-
gust 29 – September 3 at the Bonneville Salt Flats
in Wendover, Utah.
"Over the past year, we have all been working
toward the goal of racing motorcycles at the Bonn-
eville Salt Flats, and it is always our intent to run
the premier motorcycle land speed racing event at
Bonneville," said Event Manager Delvene Man-
ning. "However, we are always subject to Mother
Nature to provide us with good conditions that we
all dedicate our time and resources to.
"We have assessed the conditions, and we are
unable to sustain the minimum standards for a pre-
mier event," Manning said. "It's been an extremely
difficult decision to make, and one we have not
taken lightly. Our dedicated team has put in
countless hours to evaluate the options for course
layouts, the quality of the course, pit locations, salt
flats on/off accessibility, course volume sustain-
ability, and the impact on salt flats resources." CN
