Most immediately eye-catch-
ing of the many avant-garde fea-
tures on the slim, rangy looking
(with a 1540mm wheelbase) new
Brough Superior is the front sus-
pension, which combines a retro
appearance with ultra-modern
design. Based on the wishbone
fork system created by French
engineer Claude Fior, who used
it on his Marlboro-sponsored
four-cylinder Fior 500cc Grand
Prix racers in the late 1980s, this
was copied by BMW in creat-
ing the Duolever fork equipping
its current four- and six-cylinder
K-series models, since Fior had
omitted to patent it. Fior in fact
built several streetbikes for Box-
er Design employing the same
front suspension, an evolved
version of which appears on the
new Brough Superior. The retro-
styled ultra-lightweight adapta-
tion of the Fior fork on the new

height matched to 18-
in. wheels makes the
Brough one for the
taller riders.
