"We had this talk probably about two years ago
(Colin with son Hayes).
"I was at boot camp, but at the time I was still
racing. I sat him down in January, I remember
it was right after our ski vacation and he'd just
started school. I said, 'Hey bud, I don't want my
career to get in the way of your career. Do you want
to go race? Do you want to motocross, dirt track?
Do you want to do this?' Because he was fast then,
too. He was like, 'I'll just play at the boot camp.'
And I'm thinking, 'f**k yes!' That is a hell of a lot
cheaper plan!' We can have a lot more fun with no
pressure. He loves it. We'll do a couple races like
some arena, short track and dirt track races, and
he'll have some fun.
"But I'm his baseball coach and he's a badass
at baseball, so I'm thinking, 'Let's go get some real
money (laughs)!'"
