JANNIRO TOPS NATIONAL SPEEDWAY
B
illy Janniro closed in on his
sixth overall and third con-
secutive AMA National Speed-
way Series title with a perfect
score in round three at the City
of Industry, California, August 8.
A big crowd was on hand to
witness a display of total domi-
nance—five heat wins plus a
semi and final victory left no
doubt that it would take a lot for
the champion to lose his title in
the final round at Fast Fridays
Speedway, Auburn, September
18
The 20 heats eliminated eight
riders and left eight in for the
two semi finals and final. Semi fi-
nal one saw Janniro head home
Charlie Venegas, with veteran
Bart Bast and rookie sensation
Dillon Ruml failing to make the
cut. Venegas, the all-time winner
at Industry, was having a fantas-
tic night after a nightmare first
two series rounds left him back
in 16th.
Semi Final number two saw
Aaron Fox, the man on form
with close to half a dozen recent
event wins, making a fantastic
start from the outside gate and
going around the field in turns
one and two. Teenage World
Cup stars Max Ruml and Broc
Nicol had a battle royale behind,
trading places and banging
elbows. Nicol went down in turn
one of lap three, but the referee
did not call foul so the race
continued. Ruml came home
second behind Fox with 16-year-
old Luke Becker fourth after
another impressive display.
The final was highly anticipat-
ed—Fox had defeated Janniro
twice in their recent encounter,
