IN THE WIND P42 SUZUKI RELEASES RED AND BLACK GSX-R1000 S uzuki is continuing its 30-year celebration of the GSX-R range with the release of a Yoshimura-inspired paint scheme for the GSX-R1000. The red and black livery chan- nels the original Yoshimura GSX- R colors of the 1986 Suzuka 8-Hour-winning machine and sports a "30 Years of Perfor- mance" badge on the fuel tank along with commemorative pinstriping on the wheels. No technical changes have been made to the red and black GSX-R over the standard machine, which is not really sur- prising, as the long rumored replacement to the current GSX- R1000 is slated for the 2016 model year. CN In celebration of the 30 th year of the GSX-R range, Suzuki will offer the GSX-R1000 in red and black livery. JETHRO HALBERT 1985-2015 J ethro Halbert, a 10-year AMA Pro Grand National racer from Puyallup, Washington, and older brother of leading GNC1 racer Sammy Halbert, died after being in a coma for over 10 months after suffering a crash at the Calistoga (Calif.) Half-Mile last September. He was 29. Even though it was widely known that his condition was not improving, Halbert's passing still brought shock and sadness throughout the flat track racing community. AMA Pro Grand National Champ and series points leader Jared Mees posted this about Halbert on his Facebook page and it reflected what many of his fellow competitors were saying in social media about Jethro's passing. "RIP Jethro Halbert you will be missed every day. Have a lot of memories racing with you and have enjoyed them all. What a sad day. Thoughts are with the Halbert family." Jethro Halbert was a racer on the national flat track circuit since 2004. While he never won a national, Halbert scored a slew of top-five national finishes, including a podium at the Castle Rock TT in 2007. His best sea- son was 2008 when he scored nine top-10 finishes (includ- ing fourths at Springfield and Topeka) and was ranked sixth in the Grand National Twins final standings. Jethro was the soft-spoken older brother of leading Grand National racer Sammy Halbert and you could tell when talk- ing with Jethro that some of his most enjoyable moments on the track were when he and his brother were able to hook up and race together. Surviving Jethro were son Caleb, fiancée Ashley, parents Willy and Shannon, and broth- ers Sam, Andy and Zach. CN Larry Lawrence Jethro Halbert, the brother of Sammy Halbert, passed away after being in an induced coma since his crash at the Calistoga Half Mile in September.
