eam BTO Sports KTM WPS has signed
multi-time Monster Energy Supercross
winner and defending Monster Energy Cup
Supercross Champion Davi Millsaps to its
team. The former Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki
and JGRMX Yamaha Team rider will make his
debut with the team the 2015 Monster En-
ergy Cup in Las Vegas on October 17, where
he hopes to defend his 2014 MEC title.
Millsaps will then make a full run in 2016
Monster Energy Supercross season. He
will be joined by current team riders Andrew
Short and Justin Brayton. CN
good right now, our bikes are definitely strong;
they're rocket ships. I'm looking forward to going
over there. Our team is definitely strong. I know
those two guys want to win bad and I definitely
do, too. But I think we just need to be smart and
be consistent."
"Obviously, last year I struggled with breaking
my foot and stuff like that," said Martin. "[I was]
definitely pissed off about that. I'm ready to go
back over there and bring it home for America
and want to make America proud. It's a big thing."
Six-time MXoN rider Ryan Dungey, the obvious
first pick to represent the team, has chosen to sit
this one out.
"The last six years I've gone," said Dungey of
his decision not to race. "The years we've won
obviously have been amazing. The years we've
lost—still ended up on the podium—were still
amazing. I enjoyed it. We finish up our season
way earlier these days. When it's five weeks
away, you take two weeks off and then you're
trying to get ready for [the MXoN], and I go over
there half-ready. I don't like to race any race half-
assed. Not only that, it cuts into the off-season.
And then we have Monster Cup and now we have
the Red Bull Straight Rhythm, which are fine, that
we'll do still. But I really feel like this is good for
me just to be able to get some time off.
"By no means am I disrespecting the country,"
Dungey added. "I definitely want to do this but it
just doesn't come at a good time. Also, you line
up at Anaheim and if you don't really give yourself
that break… I realized last year how important
that is to just unwind and be able to step away
from it a little bit, this way I get a nice break. I
don't really feel like it's fair to my fans and my
team and my sponsors when I show up on the
gate half-assed at Anaheim I. Long story short,
that sums it up. But I wish the guys the best. I
want to see them take it home. Last three years
it's been hard to stand on the third or the second
step. It's nice to stand on top. They've got a good
team."
