40 Years Ago August 19, 1975
Tony DiStefano was pictured on the cover 40 years ago to accompany our
interview with the 250 National Motocross Champion. We also chatted with other
heros of the sport, including motocrosser Teri Kezar, Jay Springsteen, Dave
Aldana, Connie Nunez and Brad Lackey… We covered the Peoria National
TT in Illinois, where Sonny Burres nabbed the win over Dave Aldana and Mert
Lawwill… Giacomo Agostini scored a big win at the 500cc GP at Imatra, Fin-
land, while Johnny Cecotto won the 350 race
over Agostini.
30 Years Ago August 21, 1985
The Speedway World Team Cup Championship from Long Beach, California,
was our cover story 30 years ago. Bobby Schwartz was pictured on the
cover en route to a second-place finish… Ron Lechien, Bob Hannah and
David Bailey made it an all-Honda sweep at the 125, 250 and 500cc National
Motocross at Spring Creek MX Park in Millville, Minnesota… Bubba Shobert
and Ricky Graham battled it out at the Peoria TT, where Graham came out on
top… Wayne Gardner topped the 8-Hour World Championship Endurance
race at Suzuka… Freddie Spencer clinched the
250cc World Championship at Silverstone.

Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser were featured on the cover of Cycle News
10 years ago after splitting wins at the Brands Hatch World Superbike round
in England… Doug Henry also go a piece of the cover for winning the
Supermoto feature at the X Games… Nico Izzi was the top rider at the 30
th
NMA Ponca City Grand National Championship… Geoff Aaron clinched his
ninth Trials National Championship… Brad Baker was the Cycle News Fast
Brain Award at the AMA Grand Championships at Springfield. Stevie Bonsey
won the AMA Horizon Award.
