MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES ROUND 10/AUGUST 8, 2015 UNADILLA VALLEY SPORTS CENTER/NEW BERLIN, NEW YORK P108 after going 3-6. Great Britain's Shaun Simp- son was fourth overall after going 4-8. The Hitachi KTM rider took advantage of a break in the MXGP schedule and was able to ride one of the factory Red Bull KTM bikes. Simpson swept the MXGP round at Lommel in Belgium the previous weekend. 250 NATIONAL Savatgy took control of moto one from the get-go, grabbing slipped back to a disappointing fourth, saying adjustments he made to the bike between motos only made things worse. Still, in the big picture, it was a good day for him, as he padded his lead over Roczen to 13 points in their race for second in the championship. In just his second race back from an injury during the Su- percross series, Canard put his Team Honda HRC CRF450R on the podium with third overall From that point on, Dungey led the moto, but Roczen made a push late in the race to give Dungey a bit of a scare, but the Red Bull KTM rider held on to fin- ish less than two seconds ahead of the defending champ, Roczen. Pourcel improved significantly from his first-moto 23 rd to finish third in the second moto but was nearly a minute behind Roczen. After starting the race in second, Barcia, who was quite happy with his bike setup, My Own Race: 5 RYAN DUNGEY 450 1 ST (1-1) Ryan Dungey had to work his way around Justin Brayton in the first moto and hold off defending champ Ken Roc- zen in the second moto before claiming his fifth overall win of the season. "Brayton edged me out there and he came from the outside and took the holeshot away from me," Dungey said. "But about four corners in, I was able to make the pass happen and from there just tried to really take off. I found some good lines, kind of searched a little bit, and opened up a gap, and then I was able to maintain that and came away with the win. [In the second moto] I saw at the bottom of Screw-U one lap I had a good size little gap and I was trying to open that up," said Dungey. "Then the next lap, I saw Roczen right there closing in. I'm like, all right, he's putting on a really big push. We were pushing a good pace the whole moto and really fighting for it. I know he really wanted it as did I. Even though it didn't affect the overall for me, I still would like to take home maximum points and an overall. I was thinking a little bit about High Point, that one time he edged me out there, so I really wanted to fight for this one. It was good to have a hang on strong kind of moment and come away with a 1-1 win today. It was exciting." 51 JUSTIN BARCIA 450 2 ND O/A (2-4) Justin Barcia got off to a "slow" start by qualifying 12 th but he quickly made up for that. "Practice is never very great for me so that's nothing new," said Barcia. "I'm a racer. I really wanted to run with Ryan the first moto. I started fifth, and was able to pass up to second. Then I charged hard but just couldn't close the gap; our times were so close. During the break before the second moto, I told myself, obviously I want to go for the overall and get the win. I struggled a little with setup the first moto, so I wanted to make a change. I just struggled the second moto. I don't remember the last time I struggled so bad. But Coy [Gibbs, team owner] came up after the race to the podium and he's like, 'dude, just think about it two months ago you prob- ably would have not even finished that moto. You probably would have put it on the ground.' In a way I'm like, 'yeah, that's probably true.' But luckily I salvaged a fourth and it was good for second overall. So for me it's definitely a frustrating day but the team's happy. All around it was just a challenging day. I didn't ride to my potential and I didn't feel super comfortable on my bike. I made a change that was worse. Now I know I won't go that way ever again." 41 TREY CANARD 450 3 RD O/A (3-6) "Moto number one was good," said Trey Canard of his day. "I had a pretty decent start and I got a couple gifts with Roczen and Pourcel going down. I was able to get right up behind Barcia, but lost it down at the bottom of Screw-U and lost a position. After that, I just couldn't get around Bogle. Justin was kind of gone by then. I wasn't comfortable at all the second moto. The track was really tough. It was hard packed and soft and rutty all at the same time; bumpy and blue groove and mushy. It's hard for me to really want to hang it out and take those risks when it's only my second race in. I know in prior years I've made those mistakes and got hurt. I'm trying to just be smart about it and let it come. I know that I won't be right there by any means, but I still want to do my best. But I'm not going to hang it out. I was mostly bummed that I lost that spot in the last two laps."
