Racing veteran Jake Zemke was slated to race a Ducati in the two MotoAmerica Superbike races. Indy would have been Zemke's first race of the season and his first on a Ducati 1199 Panigale R, but after the motorcycle had issues all week- end, Zemke did not race. "We did a few laps but kept running into prob- lems," said Zemke, who, along with Vincent Haskovec, was the first rider to ever test a Superbike at Indy back in 2003. "We were working our way through the problems, but re- ally didn't get much on track time. Thursday in the rain I think we did two timed laps at speed and then Fri- day I think we did four laps at speed. It started with a couple of problems that compounded. It started with an electronics problem that led to a clutch issue and the combination of issues took a toll on the motor. We had a spare motor, but with as many issues as we faced I didn't want to risk anything." Knapp, Day and South African Sheridan Morais keep closing the gap to the Superbikes with their lower-spec Superstock machines.
