SUPERBIKE MOTOAMERICA AMA/FIM NORTH AMERICAN ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 8 / AUGUST 7-9, 2015 INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY/INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA P86 rode to the limits and beyond to stay with Beaubier and Hayes. He commented that over-riding allowed him to stay with the lead- ing duo, but he said ultimately he had no margin, no way to get around them and make it stick, so he finished the weekend with a pair of thirds and likely in need of help to have any chance of retaining his title in New Jersey banking to get any grip off of. Any problems that I might have been able to find my way around by being familiar with the race- track is gone. Anything I seemed to have in my pocket is gone and I'm struggling on both ends right now just trying to make things work." In Sunday's race two, Hayes threw caution to the wind and throw the red flag so I was doing everything I could just to stay in front just in case it would go back a lap or whatever—if it didn't go to the checkered." For Hayden, Indy was another case of being so close and com- ing up short. If Suzuki is to be kept from being blanked out with zero wins in AMA Superbike for the first time in 13 years, Hayden or Lewis will to have to come up with something special at New Jersey Motorsports Park next month. "It's a little disappointing to keep getting second by point zero something," Hayden said. "But the whole Yoshimura Suzuki team has given me a great bike. It's fun fighting with the two lead- ers. We want to win and we only have two races left to try to get one. I'm looking forward to New Jersey already and we'll try to get a win there." While Beaubier and Hayden, both of whom had raced the Indy circuit before, looked solid, de- fending champ Josh Hayes was uncharacteristically tentative. He'd never raced Indy before and freely admitted that circuit was much more difficult to grasp than he originally thought. "I figured it was a flat infield road course that it should be fair- ly simple to learn," Hayes said. "But everything was hidden. You can't see the apexes, there's no Gagne (center) Day (left) and Taylor Knapp lap it up on the podium for a Yamaha clean sweep.
