IN THE WIND P30 CANEPA CHARGED OVER TRACK DAY ASSAULT C urrent Althea Ducati World Superbike rider Niccolo Canepa is in very big trouble with Italian authorities following news he has been charged with battery and assault after a track day incident at Mugello in 2013. CCTV footage emerged early last week of two riders gesticulating to each other between the Poggio Secco and the Materassi turns (turns three and four), where the outside rider, alleged to be Canepa, can be seen grabbing the front brake of a rider identified to be Davide Cappato, send- ing Cappato crashing to the ground and almost taking out a rider following the pair. The incident left Cappato with a fractured collarbone and Canepa with some very serious charges to answer. Not only does Canepa have the authorities and Cappato to face, but it's likely the FIM will have its own judgment to hand down on Canepa, which could include anything from sanctions to a lifetime racing ban, regardless of the outcome in the Italian court.
