ZEMKE RETURNS TO RACING
F
ormer AMA Formula Extreme Champion and
Daytona 200 winner Jake Zemke will race the
final two rounds of the MotoAmerica Superbike
Championship aboard a TPL Racing Ducati.
Starting this weekend, Au-
gust 7-9, Zemke will set aside
his day job as a rider-manager
with Wasserman Media Group
and go racing at the Indianapo-
lis Motor Speedway.
"If I felt like I couldn't be
competitive, then it's definitely
time to hang up the boots and
leathers," said Jake Zemke on
the MotoAmerica site. "But I still
feel like I can get the job done
if I've got all the right equipment
and support."
The last time Zemke raced
was at last September's AMA
Pro Racing finale at New Jersey
Motorsports Park, where he finished third behind
the late Dane Westby and current MotoAmerica
Superstock 1000 points leader Jake Gagne.
"Racing is what I've done my whole life," he
said. "This is my 19th season racing
professionally in the AMA paddock.
Even in the years that I didn't have
a full-time deal, I still made a couple
appearances."
Even so, Zemke wasn't sure
if that opportunity would come
together this season. "Luckily,
friends put something together for
these last couple races," he said.
"The bike is owned by Rod Sny-
der and built by Desmo Veloce in
Phoenix."
Zemke also plans to contest the
final round of the series, September
11-13, at New Jersey Motorsports
Park. CN
GOT A SPARE

I
f you do, you might want to
check out this drool-worthy 1936
Brough Superior SS100, which
is due to go under the hammer
at the world famous Bonhams
auction at the Classic Motorcycle
Mechanics Show at Staffordshire
Country Showground in England
on October 18.
This Brough is expected to
reach an eye-watering price of
£240,000 ($373,000), and was
the star of the 1936 Motorcycle
Show at Earls Court. It's powered
by a Matchless V-twin and has
78,000 miles on the clock. Inter-
estingly—it's a runner. This classic
has finished a recent ride around
Wales and comes with receipts
for a £4300 ($6700) rebuild.
The SS100 was the ultimate
superbike of its day, with each
machine coming from the fac-
tory with a written guarantee
it would hit 100 mph down the
quarter mile. When most people
were still driving cars like the
Model-T Ford, that made this
one very quick machine.
