VOL. 52 ISSUE 31 AUGUST 4, 2015 P33
Our most recent event on
July 19, 2015, was a Pro/Am
race, featuring a full lineup of
District 17 Amateur classes and
the two Pro classes we always
run. The amateur portion was
PMC's round in a 9-race series
co-hosted by five Central Illinois
motorcycle clubs. Because the
lineup included everything from
50cc to super senior, we added
a chicane to reduce approach
speed to the jump.
We did this in response to
concerned racers and par-
ents of youth racers, many of
which had seen riders in the
pro classes struggle with the
landing, during the GNC TT in
2014. Pro Singles and Expert
Singles both ran the standard
track configuration on July 19.
All of this comes on the heels
of reports that Peoria may fea-
ture Grand National Twins next
year instead of the 450cc single-
cylinder motocross-based bikes
that have been used in recent
years.

ROGER HAYDEN GETS NEW LOOK
I
n honor of the GSX-R's 30
th
An-
niversary, Yoshimura Suzuki's
Roger Hayden will sport a spe-
cial livery starting with the Red
Bull Indianapolis GP combined
MotoGP/MotoAmerica event on
August 7-9 at the Indianapolis
Motor Speedway. The special
red and black livery commemo-
rates the color scheme worn by
former Grand Prix World Cham-
pion Kevin Schwantz when he
debuted the Suzuki GSX-R750
in AMA Superbike with Yoshimu-
ra in 1986.
"I first rode the GSX-R in
1985 at the Suzuka 8-Hour with
Graeme Crosby," Schwantz said.
"We didn't get the Suzuki GSX-
Rs in the United States until '86
but raced them in American Su-
perbikes in '86 and '87. I won the
Daytona 200 on a Suzuki GSX-R
in 1988 and continued to race
the 8-Hour all the way through
to the 1992 season. The Suzuki
GSX-R to me is the definition of
a sport bike. When the GSX-R
came out it completely changed
the definition of a sport bike and
it has continued to improve ever
since."
In addition to the motorcycle,
Hayden's leathers will be a cus-
tom commemorative set and his
Yoshimura Superbike crew will
be wearing red-themed gear;
even the Suzuki GSX-R1000 tire
warmers will be in the special
anniversary colors.
Hayden will also
race the special
30th anniversary
colors in the 2015
MotoAmerica fi-
nale at New Jersey
Motorsport Park in
Millville, New Jer-
sey, on September
11-13.
Hayden's team-
mate Jake Lewis
will still sport the
team's 2015 color
scheme. CN
Roger Hayden and his GSX-R get a special look
in time for the U.S. Grand Prix weekend at Indy.
