Ryan Dungey was
honored recently
with the ESPN ESPY
Award for Best
Male Action Sports
Athlete.
DUNGEY HONORED
R
yan Dungey became the first motocross racer
to earn an ESPN ESPY Award for Best Male
Action Sports Athlete, which many acknowledge
as a pinnacle of recognition in American sports.
Dungey said that he was extremely honored to
receive the award and quite surprised.
"I was like, 'wow!'" Dungey said of when his
name was announced. "My mom and dad, me and
Lindsey, we were jumping up and down scream-
ing. It was kind of a cool moment, not just for us
but for the sport.
"I think it's really important that the sport gets
that recognition," Dungey said of the award.
"And I really think it's the dedication of all of us,
the motocross community and all the sacrifice
we've all made to get everything better and the TV
packages—everybody—not leaving a person out.
I think we're reaping the benefits of all that over
the years. It's definitely cool to be the first one,
but by no means do I look at it as me. It's all of us
who won that one. So it's definitely exciting and I
think our sport has a bright future. A lot more good
times up ahead for sure."
"We are very pleased to see Ryan honored for
his accomplishments in AMA Supercross, and we
congratulate him on this award," said AMA Direc-
tor of Supercross Kevin Crowther. "The skill, tal-
ent, determination and physical fitness demanded
by AMA Supercross are extraordinary, and Ryan's
recognition is so rightfully deserved. We fully
expect this award will introduce new fans to one
of the most thrilling sports on the planet, and that
AMA Supercross fans everywhere will tune in to
watch Ryan defend his AMA No. 1 plate in 2016."
Dungey joins fellow 2015 ESPY award winners:
basketball star LeBron James, soccer player Lio-
nel Messi, professional golfer Jordan Speith, and
tennis stars Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic.
