FLAT TRACK AMA PRO FLAT TRACK SERIES ROUND 7/JULY 11, 2015 INDIANA STATE FAIRGROUNDS/INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA P102 (113-106), but now it's over Bryan Smith instead of Sammy Halbert, who dropped to third in the standings after finishing seventh. Baker, Wiles' teammate Kenny Coolbeth Jr. and even Brandon Robinson are all still very much in title contention at the halfway point of the season. The series takes a few weeks off before heading to the Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, South Dakota, as part of the an- nual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. CN GNC1 Final 1. Brad Baker (Harley-Davidson) 2. Bryan Smith (Kawasaki) 3. Jared Mees (Harley-Davidson) 4. Mikey Martin (Kawasaki) 5. Johnny Lewis (Ducati) 6. Brandon Robinson (Triumph) 7. Sammy Halbert (Kawasaki) 8. Nichole Mees (Harley-Davidson) 9. Briar Bauman (Kawasaki) 10. Jake Shoemaker (Triumph) Briefly... the rules that allowed some brands to run 1000cc (or bigger) machines, while other brands are restricted to 750cc. "You watch the GNC2 race and you could see how much faster that Suzuki [winner Nick Arm- strong's bike] was than any- body else. And in GNC1 look on Fans Choice and see how fast Shawn Baer's KTM is on the straights. It's just not right that some riders and teams aren't as talented, but they have a motorcycle that al- lows them to blow by every- one on the straights." Wer- ner said right now he feels AMA Pro Racing is more wor- ried about the show and hav- ing a lot of different brands involved instead of making a level playing field for all the teams. "They tell me, 'Yeah we know those bikes are faster and we'll look at it for next year, but for right now we're not going to do any- thing.' What is that?" Werner went on to say he thinks the 1000cc and bigger bikes should have restrictors and the 750s should be allowed to use larger bore carbure- tors or throttle bodies. "I mean an engine is nothing more than an air pump," he said. "And all things equal if one bike has 750cc and an- other has 1000cc, it stands to reason that the 1000cc machine is going to make 25 percent more power. So you have to either restrict the big- ger bikes, let the smaller bike use bigger carbs or throttle bodies or a combination of both. I mean nothing against Shawn Baer or the kid on the Suzuki who beat my rider in GNC2, but the reason those guys are running up front is because they just blow by ev- erybody on the straights at a big track like Indy." Henry Wiles got his visor torn from his helmet when he hit parts from Shawn Baer's KTM. "It doesn't seem like I've been having very good luck this year, but in reality I've been getting out of some close calls," Wiles said. "I saw the tire fly up in the air and I just started to react when I hit it. I didn't have time to duck it. It just clipped me and blew my shield right off. I was wide open when it happened. It was almost catastrophic, but thankfully everybody came out okay." Wiles went on to explain he lost a chain, which caused his later crash. "It's frustrating when you're trying to make some money and you're run- ning up front and something like that happens," Wiles said. "But I know this Zanotti team is a good one and we're just experiencing some bad luck right now. I was going off into turn three and the chain popped off. The bike laid down and I was looking at the air fence coming up, just trying to push away from the bike so it didn't suck me up into the air fence. I had a real bad day." It was another thrilling finish in the GNC1 class, with Baker (6), Smith (42) and Mees separated by a margin of 66-1000ths of a second.
