MANY A MILESTONE FOR COLDENHOFF AT KEGUMS
R
ockstar Energy Suzuki
Europe's Glenn Coldenhoff
took home top honors at the
MXGP of Latvia in Kegums, July
12. It was a day of first's for the
rookie—his first two holeshots
of the season, his first race
win, and more importantly, his
first ever MXGP overall. It also
marked the first premier class
win for a Dutchman in a decade
and a first for Suzuki this year,
as the World team's frontrun-
ners—Kevin Strijbos and Clem-
ent Desalle, have been battling
injuries.
"The weekend started good
and I was fast right away," Cold-
enhoff said. "I've always had a
good feeling on this track and
the [Motocross of] 'Nations went
well last year and this GP also.
Of course I was really happy
with the first moto. I started the
season with a bit of a struggle.
The goal was top-10 in the
beginning, and later-on move up
to the top-five and this came a
bit unexpectedly! Winning a GP
is something different! I'm really
happy and the team has worked
hard…it is just great."
In second with a pair of third-
place finishes was Team HRC's
Gautier Paulin. Paulin was
expected to do well at Kegums
after his unforgettable perfor-
mance at the 2014 Monster En-
ergy FIM Motocross of Nations,
but unfortunately a pair of poor
starts made life difficult for the
Honda rider.
"I had a bad start in the first
moto and by the time I was up
to the front Glenn [Coldenhoff]
and Kevin [Strijbos] were gone,"
Paulin said. "So I just stayed on
an easy pace because the riders
behind me were quite far too."
Another average start in race
two had Paulin in for another
challenging race, but he man-
aged to surge his way up into
third and set the fastest lap time
of the weekend in the process.
Yamaha Factory Racing Ya-
malube's Romain Febvre joined
Glenn Coldenhoff
(259) scored his
first overall win in
the premier class
at the MXGP of
Latvia.
