SUZUKI U NLEASH 30
TH
ANNIVERSARY GSX- R1000
S
uzuki has taken the wraps off its 30
th
Anni-
versary GSX-R1000 Superbike, resplendent
in the blue and white racing color scheme made
famous by Texan Kevin Schwantz in the 1980s.
To celebrate the occasion, Suzuki's MotoGP
team reverted to the classic color scheme for the
German Grand Prix with riders Maverick Vinales
and Aleix Espargaro going retro for the event.
"I've been involved with Suzuki and raced Su-
zukis my entire career and have seen the GSX-R
evolve," said Schwantz. "I like to think that some
of the Grand Prix racing I did helped with some
development of the GSX-R; maybe some of the
technology they learned from GP racing is stuff
that has evolved and gone into the production
GSX-R motorcycles. Whether it's a 600, 750,
1000, or all the other different sizes that they have
made, they're all just as much fun to ride."
The 30
th
Anniversary GSX-R1000 will be on
sale globally within the next couple of months,
although no firm date or pricing has been set by
American Suzuki. Don't expect anything more
than a paint job, however, because the GSX-R line
has long been due for an overhaul with persis-
tent rumors hinting at a new machine for 2016,
or perhaps 2017, given that it will have been two
years since the MotoGP team's reintroduction to
the series and enough time for some very special
parts to filter down to the production machine.
