TM-owned Husqvarna is the latest manufactur-
er to throw its hat into the Dakar ring, with the
announcement the yellow and blue brigade will
field a factory team for the 2016 event with riders
Pela Renet and Ruben Faria.
"We are pleased and proud to be taking the
Husqvarna brand another step forward into rally
sport," said Robert Jonas, Husqvarna Motorcy-
cles Vice President Motorsports. "Husqvarna has
a rich tradition of racing and this represents an
opportunity for us to honor and extend this tradi-
tion. The Dakar is the most prestigious rally on the
calendar. We're determined to
compete on equal terms with the
world's best teams and we are
ready to accept the challenge
of rally sport at its finest. We are
also very confident that it will be
rewarding for our brand and our
factory team."
The team will use the
Husqvarna FR 450 Rally ma-
chine and will be one of the dark
horses for the event, especially
with veteran Portuguese rider
Faria, who finished second in
the Dakar to Cyril Despres on a
factory Red Bull KTM in 2013.
